Gavid’s Story

“Earlier this year, I noticed an unusual patch of skin on my cheek. Thankfully, I decided to consult a dermatologist, and it turned out to be a pivotal decision.

The diagnosis was sun-damaged skin with irregular cells, precursors to skin cancer. Following this, I underwent a rigorous 9-week treatment with Efudix Cream, which, while effective, was not the most pleasant of experience, leaving the area blistered and raw.

I'm not sharing this to seek sympathy but to emphasise the vital importance of sun safety. As temperatures rise, it's crucial that we, as a community, prioritise protecting our skin.”

Infinity Tennis is Accredited to the Outdoor Kids Sun Safety Code and will ensure that sun protection is integrated within our outdoor tennis sessions from March – October:

Skin cancer is the world’s most common cancer, mainly affecting those who spend lots of time outdoors without sun protection. With just one blistering sunburn in childhood doubling the risk of melanoma (the most dangerous form of skin cancer), so we aim to do all we can to keep everyone protected.

Between March to October, we all need to be aware of the risks of UV exposure, specifically when the UV Index is 3+. Please work with us to ensure all children attending our sessions understand the importance of sun protection and support us in carrying out the following actions:

  1. PREPARE:  Ensure your child arrives ready for a day in the sun, (whatever the weather in the morning).

  2. PROTECT: Ensure hats and sunglasses (where possible) are provided and worn if required, and sunscreen (SPF30+) is reapplied at breaks.

  3. SHADE: Where possible, seek shade during lunch breaks and when spectating.

  4. HYDRATE: Ensure water is always available and sipped throughout the day.

  5. LEAD BY EXAMPLE: Our coaches will act as role models regarding sun protection and inspire children to follow suit.

We recommend that all children attending complete the Sun-Sorted! quiz HERE. This ensures they understand exactly why sun protection is important.
