Transforming a community through the power of tennis!

How Tennis Can Transform a Community

Tennis is more than just a sport; it’s a powerful tool for bringing people together and revitalising communities. No where is this more evident than at Spencer Square in Ramsgate, where Infinity Tennis has spearheaded an extraordinary transformation.

Breathing New Life into a Neglected Space

When Infinity Tennis took over the courts and sports pavilion at Spencer Square, the site was in complete disrepair. What was once a derelict pavilion and dirty horrible courts with little appeal is now a thriving hub for tennis enthusiasts and the broader local community.

The first step in this transformation was the renovation of the pavilion. With an investment of £25,000, the team turned a crumbling structure into a vibrant community space. Today, it’s a warm, welcoming venue where locals can gather for coffee, homemade cakes, and friendly chats. This renovated space isn’t just for tennis players; it’s for everyone in the community, fostering a sense of togetherness and connection.

Making Tennis Accessible for All

Infinity Tennis’s impact extends far beyond improving the physical space. They’ve introduced a fully inclusive programme that has made tennis accessible to people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.

For the first time, coaching sessions are available on-site, with classes for both kids and adults. The programme also includes innovative initiatives such as:

  • Rusty Rackets: Free adult coaching for beginners or those returning to the game.

  • Walking Tennis: A slower-paced version for those who prefer or need a gentler game.

  • LGBTQ+ Social Tennis: A safe, inclusive space for the LGBTQ+ community to enjoy the sport.

  • Disability-Focused Sessions: Classes tailored for people with mobility challenges or adult learning disabilities.

These offerings have broken down barriers, creating opportunities for people who might never have picked up a racket to engage with the sport.

Beyond the Game: Building Community

The influence of Infinity Tennis extends well beyond weekly sessions on the court. Spencer Square now hosts Local Tennis Leagues and an annual Heritage Open Day, which this year drew over 100 locals. Attendees enjoyed free taster sessions and an exhilarating exhibition match featuring two of the area’s top players.

But it’s not just about tennis. The refurbished pavilion has evolved into a cultural hub, hosting art exhibitions by local artists and creating even more reasons for people to gather. This dual focus on sport and culture has made the space a dynamic center of community life.

A Thriving Hub of Activity

Infinity Tennis has done more than renovate a neglected site—they’ve created a place where people of all walks of life can come together. Whether it’s through sport, art, or simply sharing a cup of coffee, Spencer Square has become a symbol of what’s possible when a community is given the tools to thrive.

It’s inspiring to see how tennis can do so much more than improve physical health or provide entertainment. At Spencer Square, it’s become a catalyst for connection, inclusion, and cultural enrichment—a true transformation driven by the passion and dedication of Infinity Tennis.

Let this be a shining example of how sport can uplift an entire community.
